Red Sox vs. Yankees

As we head into the dog days of the baseball season the pennant races in all divisions with the exception of the National League East could come down to the wire. In Boston, the Red Sox are in the midst of their dog day’s swoon and trail the Yankees by a few games as they prepare for a five game series this weekend in Boston. Many Red Sox fans think that this series could be the decisive factor on who finishes first in the division.

The rivalry between Boston and New York goes back a long way. The passionate flames of ardent fans have recently been stoked to a bonfire pitch with the increased popularity of sport radio talk shows in both cities (WEEI, Boston and WFAN, New York). These shows and various fan internet sites have brought out the most absurd and obnoxious fans this side of the Triboro Bridge.

Even though both teams have recently matched up fairly well against each other without any one dominating the other, there still exists the air of Yankee supremacy. Here’s a list that I’ve compiled that define much from the eyes of a Yankee fan of what the match up would look like in other forms of comparisons.

The arrogance of the Yankee fan stems from the fact that their team has won 26 World Series while the Red Sox have won only 6.

Many a Red Sox fan’s summers have been spoiled by losing some heart breaking games to the New York teams. They have been given the name of ‘Loser Nation” by some die-hard Yankee fans.

When you really come down to it, there are no losers any more because most of the veteran players are paid MILLIONS. The losers are the fans who pay thousands a year to watch millionaires playing a kid’s game. How much money has A-Rod put in the pockets of the obnoxious Yankee fans?
