Quirks

The word quirk is interesting in itself as anything beginning with the letter Q. Even though it rhymes with jerk it doesn’t necessarily mean that one with a peculiar behavior is a jerk. Harriet Beecher Stowe pointed out that, “Every man had his own quirks and twists.”

After twenty years of being married one woman discovered that her husband’s quirks was what she cherished most. He was precise and exacting while she was impulsive and expressive. It took her a while to realize that many of the fussy, overly meticulous things that he did were actually acts of love for her. Anytime she would venture on a trip alone, he was the one who always readied her car; checking tires and various fluid levels, etc.

During a period when he was unemployed he built an office for her budding writing career – even though she had yet to publish anything. It turned out that her desire to become a writer was on his list.

More importantly, she was on his list.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others. ~Philippians 2:3-4

Isn’t it nice to know that you are on somebody’s list – not a hit list but a caring list.
