“The public doesn’t seem concerned they are dying,”
“They would rather have someone’s else daughter die than their son.”
These two quotes are from a military sociologist who has studied national service which appeared in Sunday’s NY Times. This comes on the heels of the death of the 65th woman serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The gist of the article questions the lack of insensitivity back home over women dying.
My perception is that the only ones who care are the families and friends of the men and women who are serving our country. I would venture to say that this is probably less than 5% of the country. The other 95% are too concerned about trivial matters. They are distracted by the tabloid laden issues that have no relevance on their existence. There seems to be a tremendous disconnect. Five percent have trouble sleeping each night thinking about they’re loved ones while 95% go about as carefree as can be.
Listen to some of the talk shows and you can hear the rhetoric coming from the so called patriots. Listen to them carefully and you will hear the following, “well, they volunteered to serve our country.” I cringe whenever I hear that because it’s almost like they were saying that these people were stupid enough to join. Do they really support our troops?
Because of the lack of a draft, 95% of the people in this country, although they say they back our soldiers, are saying I’m glad that my loved ones are not over there. I often wonder what the climate of this country would be like if every single young man and woman was susceptible to be drafted and spend some time in the Middle East.
I’m sure you would see tremendous concern and that the “War On Terror” would have taken on a different look.
God Bless America and the leaders that make decisions that scar thousands of families. Pray that this insanity will come to an end. Pray for all that have lost a loved one and especially for the thousands that have been injured.
WAR, was is it good for? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!
