Flag Day

As I drove through Dedham on Tuesday evening, I was struck by the number of American flags that were flying from the many homes I passed on my way to play cribbage. There’s nothing more inspirational and that lights the patriotic spark in me than watching our flag flying proudly.

The flag brings such a warm feeling over me. It represents our independence, our liberty and it brings to mind all who have given their lives fighting for the flag which represents the United States of America. I can see the famous picture of the soldiers raising the flag at Iowa Jima and I recall how the astronauts upon landing on the moon placed the American flag on this outpost in space.

My hats are off to the Dedham officials for the yearly Flag Day Parade. The parade on June 14, 2006 will be from 6:00 PM to 8 PM.

Thanks for showing off America’s colors Dedham.
