It seems like that whenever, Mr. Lucchino and the Red $ox go crying to Beacon Hill or to City Hall, legislators readily dispense tax payer’s had earned money to them.
I’m tired of having my tax dollars going to help the likes of big business, especially the Red $ox. Just because they spent approximately $700 million to buy the ball club, they shouldn’t expect taxpayers to subsidize their every wish and demand. The greed that’s been demonstrated by this ownership group is unmatched. Tom Yawkey where are you?
Since Mr.Lucchino et al prefer to cater to corporations, making the Red $ox ticket the highest priced in Major League Baseball, thereby slamming the door shut to thousands of old time loyal baseball fans, then they should turn to the corporations to solicit their help.
Mr. Henry and Werner don’t come crying poor mouth when you have a cash cow in owning your own cable station, NESN. You were kind enough for the first few years to televise one game a week on free television (Friday nights on channel 38) but even that was taken away, leaving many seniors who have followed the Red $ox for over fifty years or more the only option of listening to the game on radio. I wonder how long that’s going to last before you decide to put the broadcast on satellite radio where we will have to pay for it.
Baseball in Boston is no longer a sport but an entertainment venue with many overpriced retreads (Clement, Tavares, Seanes, Wells, etc.) that are called stars. Anybody that goes to the park or watches a few innings on NESN is soon brainwashed by the bombardment of ads. Many games are too tedious to watch and I get tired just listening to the announcers trying to fit all the promos in between their description of the game. More time is pent promoting products for which the club is highly compensated than is spent on the game.
I’m appalled that with all the revenue streams you have been able to milk out of every nook and cranny of your operation, you have the face and gall to ask the legislators to part with the taxpayer’s money.
I hope that many other taxpayers call their legislators and express these concerns. Enough is enough for the greedy Red $ox.
