LANDMARK Fuel Economy bill

Just in

Senate Passes Landmark Fuel Economy Bill

In an eleventh-hour compromise fashioned after two days of closed-door meetings, an agreement was reached to increase average fuel economy by 40 percent to 35 miles per gallon for cars, SUVs and pickup trucks by 2020.

What makes it a "landmark" bill?

Maybe it's just because they did something. Wow, that's great! But did you notice the timetable.

Do the math, we're in the year 2007. The year they gave to meet the new standards was 2020.

We have to wait 13 years? Am I reading this right?

Is this all they could muster?

Is that all this Congress has?

Now I know why they call it a "landmark" bill. Scientists and environmentalist have already started to mark off the land that will be lost because of global warming.

I wonder how much of Cape Cod is going to be left in the year 2020.
