Many people, especially women, claim that they feel powerful and safe behind the wheel of a SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle). They like the feeling of beeing higher and having better visibility. But are they REALLY safe?
Answer – NO.
There have been many incidences where a SUV has rolled over and either hurt or killed some of the passengers. Now I find that these vehicles are involved in what’s called “front over” accidents. So far this year, 38 children have been killed in “front over” accidents that are caused by a large vehicle running them over.
The latest incident occurred in the Sacramento area this past Thursday whereby a father had pulled his Hummer H2 into a next-door neighbor's driveway when "he apparently felt a thud." He got out and found his 2 yr. old son by the right rear tire. He was dead.
Many of these vehicles are built so high off the ground that visibility is compromised. You can’t see that there is a child in front or in back of you. In more than 70 percent of cases in which a child is struck, the driver is a parent or a close relative.
What a high price to pay, just to own a Hummer.
